    Nice thanks for the info

Today I heard on the new in NZ that there is talks about the NZ dollar maybe merging with the Austrialian dollar.

Many people in NZ worry about the High dollar here because it would hurt the farmers exporting

on a different note meny Americans are buying kiwi gold coins and keeping them here as a safe heaven against the economic crisis.

Here in NZ they say the economic crisis is over

If the shit hits the the hippo’s fluttering tail NZ is a very nice place

The American dollar will go a lot lower in 2010. Plus, look for an attack on Iran. Iran just started doing oil transactions not using the American Dollar. Reminds me of when S. Hussein said that he would use another dollar to replace the American Dollar.

  • eddiedaskull says:

Now the NZD is at 72 cent however last month it was up to 78 cents on the USD

The austrialian dollar is at 80 cents

PCI is no more unless you count DGS, which they are still pretty liberal with their grading compared to the top tier services. At lest from my grading tests they were 2 points off compared to NGC and PCGS which hit it within a point. ACCGS is just like DGS/PCI imo. You might as well send your coins to SEGS too if you want that kind of grading. However it will make it very hard to sell. Grading is subjective but I prefer a conservative grading rather than a liberal one.

I can see your knowledge expands way past coins. I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge myself. It has lead me to many strange pieces of information. I talk to my uncle about the fasci and olive branches used in a lot of currency and on federal buildings. Interesting that they use that symbolism would you agree?

  • LiesAndTruthDetector says:

A Professional Numismatist earns the title just as in most other professions – Years of intensive experience, training, learning and focus. Although, even with that, graders may often disagree with each other, just as the most learned scholars often disagree with different interpretations of the Bible, Koran, Talmud, etc. There are subtle differences of die wear and striking strength to Uncirculated coins of the same design, & few experts can tell the difference between die wear & circulation.

  • Poonard says:

Honestly, I’ve only just started but I never felt that I myself was not a good enough grader of quality for most coins if not all. Give me a good high resolution picture or a magnifying glass I am certain I can tell you the subtle differences. I’m glad you give the same advice I would! Never hurts to have a nicely packaged coin though from a professional. How does one become a professional with coins?

  • LiesAndTruthDetector says:

I wouldn’t spend $30 to $40 (or more) to have a coin graded, not to mention the postage/insurance both ways. Most collectors and dealers know how to grade and thus millions of “raw” coins sell on eBay every year based only on posted pictures. But if you think slabbing is the only way to go, I would test it at one of the cheaper services first, such as PCI or ACCGS -the later charges only $9. If you go by the pictures on their Website and Coin World, they do just as good as the expensive guys.

  • Poonard says:

what would be your coarse of action in having a coin graded?

  • LiesAndTruthDetector says:

The video’s statement that the big 3 third party graders, PCGS, NGC and ANACS are trusted by “everyone” is patently false. A Coin World investigation in 2003 in which 11 coins were sent to them and PCI and ACCGS – in not one single case did any of the grading services agree with each other, and in some cases they were 7 points off. Look up PCGS on Wikipedia. I go to dozens of shows and see trash cans filled with broken slabs from all the grading companies, who are not infallible.

Beverly Hills Coin Club members voted these websites as their “Favorite mail order coin dealers for both buying and selling”. The qualifications were that the dealerships had to have been online for at least 10 years with no outstanding complaints from members.
    *CoinHappy, West Hollywood
*Beverly Hills Numismatics – Beverly Hills
    *CollectorsInternet, Hollywood
    *JeffersonCoins, Pasadena
    *Superior Coins, B.H. CA
    *GFO Coins, B.H., CA
Most of these have mail order customers all over the U.S.

Hi Mark! Enjoyed the video, nice production quality – certainly a step above.

Good advice, presented in what I would say is a far manner. Some reputable ebayers exist (eg who get circulation rolls and then distribute them singly or in yearly sets) but overall I agree with you 100%

Looking forward to the other episodes I see (already posted) as I’m a Canadian interested in collecting American decimal … so don’t feel that too much content is ever enough!

  • markapsolon says:

since ICG and ANACS are/were pretty much the same graders both are good

  • markapsolon says:

nope. no need to because they are encased

  • thecoingenius says:
